Le Placard Headphone Festival

August 26st Last_Generale, Sèvres, France – the return of the 72 hour Paris open slot. It will also be the last event in La Generale en Manufacture. Le Placard started in 1998 in Paris, France. At that time finding venues for alternative music was difficult, and police raids on unlicensed events were frequent. So instead Erik Minkkinen organised a headphone party in his small apartment, called ‘placard’ after the French word for ‘cupboard’.

Since then this concept has grown to an international streaming festival, with tens of cities providing listening rooms for local and remote performances. Placard has formed part of the Mutek, Transmediale, Garage and Pixelache festivals. The event in Paris has itself grown into an institution, running for 72 hours straight where the audience sleep with their headphones on, still listening.

MaCu (aka Susanne Hafenscher)

MaCu is the project of the Austrian musician Susanne Hafenscher. She started her musically activities with studying piano and vocals. After a certain period without doing any music she began to play guitar. Soon MaCu started to experiment with prepared guitar and to generate music by using field recordings and processed sounds of objects and vocals. She has an extensive discography and composition collaborations released by some of the finest netlabels, and recently she co-founded the netlabel kultur[Terrorismus].

Anton Mobin

Anton Mobin is a concrete music composer & radio producer addict of field recordings. Co-curator of the collective H.A.K. and curator of the Improvisators Network. Objects manipulator & improvisator experienced due to several meeting with international artists which one of the most important was certainly with Rinus van Alebeek in Berlin. Always in search for new articulations between objects, manipulations, and interaction with his own body. A crack, a fold, a brightness, a jolt in the plan of the sound, a convexity of surface…

Prepared Chamber. This chamber is a home-made acoustic instrument prepared by Anton Mobin and composed with a large box in wood, upgraded with several springs and others metallic found objects selected for their capacity to create melody. The box is divided into three parts among which each is covered with a different surface (a wood, a metal and a plastic one). Three different contact-microphones are placed in suspension under these surfaces: bass contact for the wood, medium contact for the metal and high contact for the plastic surface. Deliberate accidents produced in the Prepared Chamber create a micro universe which I dread in an intuitive way to resound as the pling plong music. Prepared chamber & Objects manipulated by Anton Mobin in an acoustic mode with effects application and treatments in real time by |Ian Linter|. Each of the 3 microphones were plugged and recorded in a separated track with different processing and equalization on each of them.

Alrucini (aka Albedo Rubedo Citrinitas Nigredo)

Ricardo Alrucini is the entity behind names like Alrucini, Shamahan, Bad Slap Org, Ombilic, Umbra, Apocalipse Político, and many others. They are Ritualistic Dada manipulations and Industrial Surrealisms transformations in exponential relation with the Moon’s shadow. Alrucini is underground. His extensive discography can be heard at Electro Rucini, the label he founded in 2007.

Juan Antonio Nieto (aka Pangea)

Juan Antonio Nieto is a sound artist who signs some of his works under the name of Pangea. His records have been published in labels around the world as Trente Oiseaux, Mandorla, Experimedia, Impulsive Habitat, Idiosyncratics, TestTube AMP, among others. Pangea has collaborated with some of the most prestigious avant-garde artists of the world, Brazilian classical composer Leo Alves Vieira working with string quartets and choirs, the Japanese author Kenji Siratori who has voiced his compositions and David Velez, this latter release was considered the best album of 2007 by the journal Earlabs. His music has been included in art installations in the Circulo de Bellas Artes de Madrid and the Cultural Center of Spain in Buenos Aires. Pangea has performed in various European and American cities.

Ian Linter

Ian Linter is an original member of the Portuguese underground collective produções Ganza, co-founder of OFF/BRUMA netlabel, and also many others sonic entities like the non-stop webradio Strange Frequencies Channel, under the label ASP. His creations are electro-organic immediatism in any possible structure through a real-time feedback series of necessary events, and have been expressed since the early 90’s on distinct anti-aesthetics with names like OLoF NiNe, ACT9, Airf’Auga, Massacre Divino, La Main Traumatique with Joséphine Muller, Plasma, RTP, among others… Ian Linter turns the third axis created by Bórgia Ginz and mirrored by Juca Pimentel.

No salão do café só estão agora alguns casais de idosos. Parece-me estar na fronteira de dois mundos que não coexistem de uma forma harmoniosa. Do lado de fora do café vagueiam os seres apressados, de objectivos bem definidos e ansiosos. Os jovens. No lado de dentro permanecem os idosos, cuja vida passou em frente a seus olhos sem deixar as marcas de uma missão. Eu estou bem encostado à montra, com uma janela enorme, com os olhos postos nas pessoas que passam lá fora, mas com a alma bem dentro da escuridão do salão. Sinto-me, (que absurdo eu sentir-me assim), o fiel da balança que nunca se equilibra, pois o peso morto da velhice é bem mais leve que todas as vidas que ainda viverão até ao futuro.

O ventre daquela mulher que tanto me agradou é saliente, o rabo torneado, as pernas finas talvez demais. O curioso é que o seu olhar vê-me como se eu falasse para ela, encostada ao balcão, talvez ali ao fundo onde não está ninguém. Mas nunca lhe disse coisa alguma.

O comprido dos cabelos chega ao fundo das costas magras e de ombros levemente inclinados para trás; traço lógico e singular de uma certa categoria de mulheres que teimam em não exprimir a sua beleza de uma forma mais viril. O que é certo é que poderia muito bem falar com ela, segurar-lhe a mão e encaminhá-la para a saída do bar, onde, no frio e escuridão da noite lhe faria um belo poema, mesmo ali, de improviso. O mais certo é que nunca cometerei tal proeza; o heroísmo anda arredado de mim de algum tempo a esta parte. O belo da questão é que o seu andar torto e a jovialidade aparente do seu sorriso deixam antever belas noites, longas e longas, cheias de apaixonadas conversas e abraços inocentes. É curioso.

Na semana passada decidi que iria viver plenamente e convictamente em castidade. Naquele dia da semana passada a ideia surgiu-me bela e bonita, linda e maravilhosa, e dei comigo a pensar que a partir daquele dia da semana passada é que as coisas enfim se tornariam belas e bonitas, lindas e maravilhosas. Não mais viver em função de baixos expedientes para conseguir um toque fortuito na suavidade de uma mulher; ou um beijo rápido e pouco apaixonado quanto rápido, ou outra coisa qualquer que me desse a ilusão de um prazer de um tamanho maior do que o mundo: essa terna ideia de acalmia e inocência enchia-me a cabeça de belos projectos e dava-me a provar o belo aroma da felicidade. Nunca chegaria a saber como seria isso tudo. Naquele dia da semana passada fazia muito calor, era de tarde, e o sol estava particularmente esfuziante. Saí do café onde tinha cogitado todas aquelas belas ideias, atravessei a passadeira para o outro lado da rua, aquela mulher estava à minha frente, esperava que os carros parassem, tinha uma saia tão bonita, uma pele de arrepiar, os ombros direitos, a saia não protegia o necessário, as pernas sem mácula, se eu lhe visse a cara então é que era, e assim por diante…

É verdade, toda a gente quer ser especial. Mas se toda a gente fosse especial, toda a gente quereria ser tudo menos especial. As virtudes, quando são em demasia até chateiam, são como os vermes que vão roendo, roendo, muito lentamente, sem que a gente se aperceba da sua presença imponente. Por exemplo:

Aquela mulher perdera o amor que outrora sentira por mim. Não podia de qualquer modo negar tal facto; mesmo que a compreensão das coisas surgisse lenta e triste, bem amortalhada pelo peso da memória. Por outro lado a amizade era algo que não me interessava. Bem podia eu gritar isso a plenos pulmões que menos nisso acreditaria. O facto é que a virtude começava a queimá-la, ou melhor, a picá-la, assim como que a dizer-lhe: “Vês? Vês?” Mas mesmo assim ela nunca via nada. Apenas pressentia a fuga como tábua de salvação e ei-la, toda ocupada a equilibrar-se naquele pequeno pedaço de madeira enquanto bate os braços tão nervosamente naquela água tão suja.

O equilíbrio. Eis uma coisa que é daquelas mesmo fundamentais. “O equilíbrio da mente aliado ao equilíbrio do corpo dá saúde e faz crescer”. Tudo muito certo. Mas o equilíbrio que realmente importa é um equilíbrio desse tipo sim, mas dos outros. O equilíbrio dos outros. Os outros, esses é que fazem a nossa vida, os nossos desejos, as nossas desmedidas ambições. E dentro desses outros equilibrados eu tinha perdido o lugar. Pelo menos ela julgava assim.

Eu sei que a morte poderia bem ser a melhor justificação para tudo. Mas o menos nunca é suficiente. E o menos mais menos que a morte me proporcionaria é bestialmente insuficiente. Não chega ter as dores que tenho, para proclamar em hasta pública que sou um miserável, que padeço da doença do suicidiário agudo. Não. As honras da minha vida não pertencem a ninguém. É como uma casa que vai a leilão, com muitos e bons potenciais compradores, mas que tem defeitos, uma racha na parede, a lareira que não funciona bem, e assim vai ficando sem um único rematador.

Mas aquela mulher que tanto me agradou, aquela do ventre saliente, é bem mais súbtil que qualquer pensamento mais destrutivo da minha parte. Ela na verdade não significa nada. É apenas mais uma, apanhada na corrente da minha existência só, que pomposo!, é apenas uma mulher. E aí está! É isso que ela tem de mais encantador. O olhar é normal, o andar, embora torto, é normal, o corpo é normal, os cabelos são normais, tudo correcto. Só que essa normalidade toda junta, toda aconchegada, contribui para que se forme um quadro onde se representa a beleza!

Não, não me sinto nada fascinado por essa mulher. Foi apenas uma que da primeira vez não desviou o olhar quando fixei nele o meu. Uma mulher que esperou um breve microsegundo para tentar ver algo para além do apresentável. Mais nada. Há tantas mulheres que olham!

Classwar Karaoke – 0015 Survey

Classwar karaoke is a collective and netlabel operated by Adrian Beetjes, Anthony Donovan and Jaan Patterson. Founded in 2008, Classwar Karaoke is a label dedicated to the release of experimental music and short-films; principally, by means of a series of ongoing quarterly surveys, made available via sites such as internet archive, myspace, disclogs, youtube, lastfm, facebook, sonic squirrel, reverbnation, soundcloud etc., under Creative Commons license 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/. All material remains the property of the respective artists and is offered for free download in line with this license. The twelve surveys published so far feature over one-hundred artists, from all over the world; and the material in toto represents significant documentation of the experimental scene itself. Involvement in the project has helped spawn many fruitful collaborations, live-shows and a vibrant exchange of ideas; so much so that, for several repeat-participants, Classwar Karaoke is as much a collective as it is a mechanism for the release of new material.
